We’re not going to “fix the Democrats’ brand” by doing TikToks or launching pods. The brand is a direct reflection of our elected officials. If we want to purge our weak branding, we have to purge the weak Dems. I’m looking forward to a robust primary cycle and new Democrats who know how to fight.

No agreement on healthcare but the government will temporarily reopen.

Wish Dems would have stood their ground.

Many millions will now shift to not purchasing any health insurance or signing for high deductible health plans that strain budgets without offering robust coverage.

Still angry beyond words.

These eight spineless skunks should never work in government again. They disgrace themselves, their states, their party and their country.

See my pinned post for a more robust analysis of how little *conceivable* justification there could ever be for what they did.

Think about how basically every TTPRPG group has more robust systems in place for dealing with bad actors, than the US government.

The BBC simply is not a robust, independent institution.

Those who clap and cheer at these resignations are only having a short-term fillip - for this capitulation indicates a less-than-healthy wider polity.

Many of you are citing Arkell v Pressdram.

This is why that robust approach would not work in these circumstance.
Some have suggested that the BBC should adopt the reply given in Arkell v Pressdram.

Alas, that only really works when you can stand by your journalism. But here the BBC mucked up.

BBC can defend and defeat this claim, if made. But it is in a less strong position than Private Eye was then.

Populist views like free education and health care?
No.
Populist views like good wages and a robust safety net?
No.
Which populist views?
Oh, you know the ones.
A prominent far-right German activist has applied for political asylum in the U.S., as the Trump administration has signaled plans to prioritize protections for White refugees and Europeans who claim they are being targeted for their populist views.

For years, I’ve criticized the Democratic Party.

This is why. Not due to hate, but out of love for the working class.

This version of the Democratic Party at the federal level has enabled a genocide, refused to hold a robust primary in 2024, and is now caving on healthcare. 1/2

"Just ask yourself, would the BBC champion a presenter who was consistently asking robust questions about the effect of the recent Supreme Court judgment on trans rights? Or would they be more likely to champion someone who was clearly gender critical?"
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

New piece from me.

There is robust data that suggests having a lot of money makes you less empathetic towards others.

I have a suspicion that it works the other way around too, and I probably have less empathy for the super rich than for other people.

If you mean a number of cis people talking about how gross trans people are, then, yes, they conduct "debates" in robust terms. 😒
