As for this particular Rachmaninoff recording, purists argue about the opposite dynamics (that's not what was written on the page!!!111)
Artists absolutely can play around with them to suit what mood/feeling they want to present if they can make it work.

So I just learnt this recording was made on February 18th, 1930, coincidentally the same day Pluto was discovered.
Don't know if that means anything, Rachmaninoff and Chopin are peak I guess.

Good Evening, Bluesky Family
The Night Before "No Kings", and I want to return to Sergei Rachmaninoff who was writing more Nocturnes in 1888.
Before finishing "Trois Nocturnes", he had written this in 1887, the Second Nocturne in F Major: Andante maestoso -
Allegro assai.

Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) was one of the finest pianists of his time, and his ten preludes of Op. 23 reflect his staggering virtuosity and romantic beauty. This performance of prelude No. 7 in c minor was recorded in 2009.

Dad had special vinyl recordings. Each whole work, operas and such, had its own needle. There were only a few. A pressing of #WilliamKapell playing #Rachmaninoff was one. He said it only sounded the same twice on its own needle.

#NowSpinning Mǎcelaru’s fairly recent Rachmaninoff Second Symphony. The opening is bang on, with the right weight, atmosphere and dark tone for my taste.
