Collecting reception report verifications for hearing SW stations was a big thing; a very rare QSL card was for a report of hearing the beep beep beep from the Soviet Sputnik satellite in October 1957.

Not to butt in here but the QSL podcast by Questlove does a dope interview with him.
He shot Hollywood Shuffle entirely using shortends. Shortends are the left over film stock productions don't use. The amount of foresight, planning and dedication to plan your movie around "I can't afford film"
