Social safety net dismantling had political consequences:
• 1996 welfare reform demolished organizing support systems
• Economic precarity makes collective action harder
• Removed community hubs where organizing happened

I think there are still some uniform practices that would help most campaigns like powermapping, audience profiling, critical pathing, etc. Basic things I consult on constantly that should be second nature to anyone in any form of advocacy that for some reason aren’t.

I feel brain poisoned how much I'm already powermapping my chapter's membership to get a sense who is running for delegate for 2025 National DSA Convention and honestly probably going to be a really packed field this go around

Indigenous sacred lands? Collateral damage. This is pure Powell Memo playbook: convert public resources into private wealth, eliminate barriers to corporate extraction. Sacred sites are just "inefficient land use" to this mindset. #PowerMapping #PublicLands

Trump's new EO on "Eliminating Information Silos" looks technical but it's a massive power grab. 🚨 Under the guise of stopping "waste and fraud," it creates unprecedented White House access to citizen data across agencies and state programs. #PowerMapping

powermapping a bigoted neighboring county... even if u end of disappointed in your own tactical capacity+end up cynicly aggrieved, it's still a nice exercise

The EO claims efficiency but creates a single choke point for $490B in government purchases. When coupled with the Federal Workforce EO, it enables removal of procurement officials who resist, while the Information Silos EO provides data access to target contracts. 🔍 #PowerMapping

Trump didn’t “flip” Mamdani — Mamdani used Trump’s ego like a turnstile. NYC’s mayor-elect walked into the Oval Office to box in a president who needs the optics more than he needs the truth. This wasn’t alliance; it was leverage. #NYCPolitics #PowerMapping

This isn't about EVs anymore. This is about systemic corporate dysfunction, financial opacity, and a cult of personality finally facing market reality. The house of cards is wobbling. 🃏 #PowerMapping

I went on FAIR's Counterspin show (one of my favs!) to talk about powermapping Starbucks execs and board directors -- including the close ties between SBUX and Walmart -- amid the ongoing @sbworkersunited.org strike.

Listen here: fair.org/home/derek-s...
Derek Seidman on Starbucks Strike, Mitch Jones on AI vs. Environment
Even Forbes has to acknowledge that even as the Starbucks strike “drags” into a second month, “global support grows.”

"Taxation Without Representation: Classic American Heritage Exhibit" isn't just clever satire - it's DC's daily reality. The EO frames the city as "belonging to all Americans" - the same justification used to deny 700k residents full rights for centuries. #PowerMapping 🏛️ 🎠

Speaker Johnson's threat to eliminate courts deserves more attention. What starts as rhetorical pressure can evolve into concrete policy. The judiciary's independence isn't optional—it's essential to our constitutional system of checks and balances.

Btw I give free talks on this (& space militarism generally). Previously have done so with PSI, Workshops 4 Gaza, & universities in the uk and ‘canada’ as well as informal student chats.

In case, hypothetically, one’s department has forbidden “DEI” or talking about Palestine. Or needs powermapping.
the NASA figure is via @palestinespace.bsky.social’s database, report, & NASA case study that identify 50+ companies that supply both space and the IOF, 29 of which have NASA contracts that’ve been paid $39 billion on active contracts alone. 50.2% of all spending

For example successful organizing in the (sometimes recent) past has used powermapping a lot better. A lot of campaigns throw themselves at their primary target when a lot impact could be had from targeting people/entities whose opinion, money, support etc they rely on
I think this is struggle of modern organizing. Large rallies in US used to be a representation of your organizing power. Now, with social media, it's easier to raise a crowd, but a lot harder to build a coherent movement from that to wield power.

locally, indivisible works tightly with all the other (including nominally ML and anarchist) groups to organize demos about labor, trans, migrant, and palestinian rights, and they dont always make rsvps. they do great research+powermapping. can we stop with this bullshit fearmongering+paranoia
Folks we are friends with everyone opposed to fascism because this is a crisis. Plus Indivisible was one of the first groups mobilizing for a ceasefire.
Indivisible and 50501 are explicitly funneling that energy info Democrat campaigns and projects while suppressing speech about Gaza. All the while attacking more radical groups by calling the police on comrades. They are not our friends.

Follow the money: mining companies gain expedited access to federal lands, Defense contractors receive DPA funding without normal oversight, and private investors benefit from a new National Security Capital Forum—all while financial disclosure requirements are waived. 💰 #PowerMapping

Another "I'm not racist, but" corporate manifesto. Frericks claims companies should judge people as individuals while supporting a movement systematically eliminating paths for those historically excluded. Classic Powell Memo playbook. #PowerMapping
