Clearly one of the casualties of the death of legislative policymaking is the death of reporters' ability to understand legislative policymaking.

This "analysis" is breathtakingly illiterate and ahistorical.

So, a Monday for the New York Times.
The ACA was gutted by Democrats. you can argue those key democrats could've been siding with what many see as the more liberal/patient centered options. or you could say it was unfortunate that Dems didnt have 60+ more liberal senators.

but it was Democrats.
Ok, but maybe you need to re-work that a bit. Also, you could also acknowledge that the original ACA was gutted by Republicans before it was finally passed, which is partly why it has been a problem for some.

On Maslow's hierarchy and our new political era in which policy will not be the dominant framework for understanding American politics. When the mechanisms of governing and policymaking are broken, debating policy is like arguing about where we want to drive a car that won't start. But don't fret...

The overthrow of the Trump regime is the first step towards any kind of actual leftist policymaking in the United States

Seven million people in the streets demanding the deposition of Trump is a good thing, actually!

Cops mostly not standing in the way of this effort: also good!

We can't necessarily blame the collapse of civic education but it certainly does not help that most Americans have no idea how national security policymaking works or ought to work in a democracy
Now that Trump has illegally bombed a seventh boat in the Caribbean, please note this: Rep Adam Smith, ranking Dem on Armed Services, tells me that *at no point* have officials given lawmakers even the most basic information about these extrajudicial murders:

I know it's been repeated a lot 'round these ways, but it's worth noting again that the average person should always be wary of any proposed bill that props itself up with "child safety" or any morality policing at its core.

It's always a cover-up for more invasive and destructive policymaking.

Every single one of the academic and professional enablers of Bhattacharya, Makary, Prasad, and by extension RFK Jr should be asked to account for the devastating consequences of their contrarianism, their asinine epistemic overreach, their refusal to listen to disabled people/patients.

1. Wealth inequality leads to increased power and influence of elites, particularly in areas like policymaking.

2. Wealth inequality permits the superrich to engage in excessive highly carbon intensive consumption, such as the use of private jets.

While the shutdown drags into week four, essential economic data collection has been suspended. That means blind policymaking while families feel the effects. Dems say restore operations now.

This thread is the angriest I've ever seen 4 people completely agreeing with each other. At first glance I thought there was an enormous barney going on.

(FAOD - The 'health surcharge' is a disgraceful snide bit of policymaking and variations of 'fraudulently described tax' are perfectly fine)

New, creative thinking is needed to address the tech policy challenges of the coming decade, writes Jose Marichal. In an increasingly irrational environment, tech policymakers need to broaden their views of policymaking, moving away from pure rationality towards storytelling, he says.

We're so used to such vast presidential-driven policymaking, and it's hard to make talk of budgets and appropriations and legislative procedure sound compelling. But usurping the power of the purse is probably the most critical load-bearing pillar of the Constitution he's destroyed.

The news that Ashley Tellis, an Indian-born foreign policy strategist and a leading expert on U.S. and South Asian affairs, has been arrested sent shockwaves in policymaking in Washington,
Is Ashley Tellis Really a China Spy?
Chinese analysts see a tragic irony in the arrest of Tellis – the architect of the India-U.S. “alliance” aimed at countering China – on national security charges.

While I agree in principle that the modern Congress has become dangerously deferential to the executive branch - and outsourced too much policymaking power there - it is also the case that 21st century policymaking can't be as centered in the legislature as 18th and 19th c framers hoped it would be.
