“Love is, as you know, a harrowing event. I believed in taking an anthropological approach to that.”

I bet Anne Carson would have absolutely broken my heart if I had been an arts student at St. Michaels in the early 70s.

(I wasn't, I was getting ready to be born, but you know, thought experiment.)

Oh, lovely. Anne Carson was a surprise to me that on reflection shouldn’t have been. What’s your favourite of hers? (I did a very deep immersion a couple of years ago to fill in the blanks and “Plainwater” blew me away.)

An incredible piece of writing: "...a brilliant refraction in the array of distractions to veer us away from what we instinctually know; we’re being played and we’re already feeling the trauma of its sublimation. In all the noise we’re being de-voiced." Made me think of Anne Carson's Plainwater.

‘I suppose you do love me, in your way,’ I said to him one night close to dawn when we lay on the narrow bed.

‘And how else should I love you—in your way?’ he asked.

I am still thinking about that.

“My mother forbad us to walk backwards. That is how the dead walk, she would say. Where did she get this idea? Perhaps from a bad translation. The dead, after all, do not walk backwards but they do walk behind us.”

Thrilled to have my hybrid/flash CNF collection find a home w @riverriverbooks! Enormous thanks to @hanvanderhart & @amorakhuey for believing in my lil weird. It’s my most vulnerable, open-hearted work yet. It’s a lament & time capsule of my time in Louisville, 2020-2022.
