Flashback to 20th October ‘25 when these Leach’s Petrels passed Pendeen Watch.

2025 was a good year for this species. I managed to see 21 over seven sea watches. Two from Porthgwarra on 9th Sept. and 19 from Pendeen Watch.

This is my favourite spot in all of Pendeen. I call them the Alone Stones, because if you cross them you lose phone signal and contact with the ever-constant outside noise. You can be alone with your thoughts, alone with your memories, and alone with yourself. It’s time to step over.

The Pendeen Lighthouse has protected and brought the locals home safely since 1900. Its silhouette against the evening sky provides a feeling of hope for everyone that sees it.

One of the benefits of living in Cornwall is the sheer variety of wonderful walks available. This was taken near Pendeen Watch in September 😎

Book 7 of The Shattered Moon, working title ‘The Principle of Detachment’, has 50 instance of ‘full’. A nice round number.

Along the Coast Path from Zennor to Gurnard's Head yesterday. Wonderful to encounter a huge flock of more than seventy Choughs - it's amazing to think they were entirely absent from this coast 25 years ago!

Kit check for tomorrow’s Lighthouse Marathon.

26.2 + miles on some of the most brutal coastline in west Cornwall.
Going from Pendeen to Godrevy.

And a glass of wine to relax into the evening 🍷

Currently walking around the house in my new trail shoes ahead of Saturday’s Lighthouse marathon.

My Inov’s, which I got 4 and a bit years ago, have served me well. But they are full of holes.

There’s a very limited chance they will survive the section of coast from Pendeen to St Ives 👀

Seawatching was a real highlight of our week in Cornwall last week. The sheer number of seabirds passing was incredible to see. A Great Northern Diver whizzed through Pendeen too
