Carboniferous (Geological periods 🌍)

The Carboniferous is a geologic period and system of the Paleozoic era that spans 60 million years, from the end of the Devonian Period 358.86 Ma to the beginning of the Permian Period, 298.9 Ma. It is the fifth period of the Phanerozoic eon. In North […]

‼️CALLING ALL BUG NERDS‼️

You'll never believe it, but my next enamel pin crowdfunding campaign is once again based on bugs... HOWEVER... it's *prehistoric bugs*

All creatures weird and cute during the Mesozoic and Paleozoic will get their spotlight for my next campaign launching in JANUARY

i guess the reason i like playing paleozoic so much is that it forces every situation in every game into system two thinking and ur just grinding out knowledge and the person who can system one overarching systems better within the match will come out ahead unless there's an overwhelming situation

Did you know Disney's Wilderness Lodge has an 82' fireplace? It's designed to mimic the Grand Canyon, and each floor has a little shadow box about the fossils of that level's era. It's also a nod to Mary Colter, designer of Bright Angel Lodge.

It was a mess, and the consensus view was that a conservative approach to their taxonomy was safest.

Despite the taxonomic issues, the systematic arguments made sense: late Paleozoic and Mesozoic lingulids were reassigned to Lingularia, ancestral to the Cenozoic genera Lingula and Glottidia.

Lingulids have seen perhaps the coldest, slowest taxonomic debates you can imagine over the past few decades. While there was a general sense that most Paleozoic and Mesozoic taxa weren't actually Lingula, early attempts at revision were ... problematic.

Always good to have some molluscs, and we did in the old ones this year with only paleozoic species : An early relative of chitons in Protobalanus, a possible really really old gastropod with Bellerophon🐚, and we even drew Plectronoceras, the oldest cephalopod to date !🐙

What will they care? Our Paleozoic government are completely unequipped to regulate them in any way. Amazon will always find a way to exploit people (and IP) for profit.

Current one is basically alternative modern fantasy- during the Paleozoic eras the world has high levels of magic fauna and flora. Mass-extinction events eliminate that, and you end up with a magic fossil fuel called aether. The potential of that is discovered in the late 1800s.

So, what are we looking at, the islands? Are these dunes?
AI says Paleozoic limestone. Not seeing any glacial erosion on the islands though, but a zillion lake levels that indicate softer material rather than 'erosion resistant'. Horizontal stratigraphy, Devonian?

#paleoctober2025 day 29 : Bellerophon !

Named after an ancient greek hero, this mollusk is a possible close relative of gastropods such as snails, slugs, nudibranchs and limpets. Numerous fossils of this animal have been found across paleozoic rocks but it's sometimes kind of a wastebasket taxon.

Lignin-decomposing fungi had almost certainly evolved by the Carboniferous, and Paleozoic coal stores are not appreciably larger than Mesozoic when scaled to inferred global isostatic sea level. (Nerd cred: I’m a paleomycologist).
