Since I love the story, music and animation of many fighting games, I enjoy playing story mode at home with a controller and really basking in the game's atmosphere. This is ESPECIALLY true for games like P4Arena and the BlazBlue series, which are visual novels/JRPGs PRETENDING to be fighting games!

A series of rambles about my thoughts on Modern Persona and Sonic Frontiers and how my opinions on the two are oddly similar.
This is not about P3R. I'm not interested in it for FeMC related reasons.

Text reading: You know, one thing I find funny is how the big reason I loved Sonic Frontiers is the same reason I lost interest in Modern Persona.
The idea that it's one big adventure.
P5 and it's spin-offs (particularly Strikers, but not Q2) are stand-alone. They're sequels to ONLY P5. 1/2/3/4 were put by the wayside, relegated to background cameos and cheeky nods. P3 and 4 were crossing over CONSTANTLY even taking out direct cross overs like P4Arena or PQ. The Investigation Team would visit Tatsumi Port Island and meet Chihiro, FeMC would play Tennis at Yasogami and meet a young Yukiko, even P4 Dancing (ostensibly a stand-alone P4 Sequel) would have plot and lore details that directly ties into P3. The cross overs were substantial!

Text reading: Meanwhile, P5's cross-series references are little things like Risette posters and vague news broadcasts. Q2 (a non-canon game that didn't even manage to sell a million units which means Atlus probably doesn't care to revisit it) aside it stands completely alone and even Strikers, a game in a genre known for housing large inter-series cross-overs and featuring a plot where the characters are cross-country travelling, cut out even the cheeky news bits. Gone was the sense that it was all one big adventure, that the actions of the past were influencing the present. All that matters anymore is the Phantom Thieves.

Text reading: And that shift from a continuity heavy story where it always felt like each successive adventure would build upon the events of the last to a series of fun but stand-alone stories where the events of each one stop mattering after the credits rolled beyond specific direct sequels is what happened to Sonic after Generations, and it resulted in the same thing for me.
I lost interest.
Why bothering caring much for one game or another if the world that previously said that it all mattered suddenly stopped doing that and discards them once they're over anyways?

Text reading: And then, Frontiers came out and dropped a TON of lore that completely re-contextualizes basically the entire franchise and is filled to the brim with nods to previous games (probably too many even) that range from "hey remember that thing" to things like Tails having to be reassured about his own wonky writing from more recent titles and giving these characters who had been static for decades genuine character arcs and a potential for future growth and it. Was. AWESOME! Maybe it makes me cringe, but that sort of thing just makes me smile! I love the idea that my engaging with past titles is something that'll be rewarded beyond cute little nods, that it's all one big adventure.
This was probably a rambling mess, but I'm barely a writer and this is just a stream of consciousness from some silly dweeby trans girl. I just wanted to talk, that's all.

it's like insane, like there's actually good new stuff out and a lot of old crap is the most playable it's ever been, like 5 years ago I would not have believed you if you told me p4arena and +r had functioning netcode. you can buy marvel vs capcom 2 on steam! like that's insane to me
