1/9 I often read in secondary data research (human participant data) that there were no data-related ethics checks necessary.

Or those sections are left blank, without comment.

Some minimal issues one should consider🧵👇

"That someone else has done or said something is epistemologically neither a necessary nor a sufficient condition to say or do so yourself."

I wonder whether this point from #NightshiftEditor feedback on a #ResearchMethods paper has application to (my 😉) life more broadly..?

Tired of using the same old repository for publishing your #PrePrints and materials?

Maybe a look at the

I have seen multiple #SysReview submissions that
(i) did not include study-level information about the quant/qual data that were aggregated;
nor (ii) an explanation how the information was aggregated.

Such a paper is likely not informative for anyone.

What do you think about unengaged* #PeerReview ers leave authors at the mercy of imaginative editors?

A #ScopingReview on #MissingData in observational studies that use #MultipleImputation:

The problem I face as a #NightshiftEditor is rather that most studies do not even report sampling. Or attempt any sensitivity analysis for missingness.

Today, I'll chair my last QLR board meeting, and Oral Session 109 on guidelines and good practices.

#ISOQOL_NewInvestigators kindly invited me and #JPRO Rasa Ruseckaite to present on manuscript writing, and I am looking forward to meeting my 2024 mentees!

Conundrum re null & negative results:

Comparing a baseline with a final measurement separately in each group of a randomised controlled trial "is biased and invalid, producing conclusions which are, potentially, highly misleading":

Journal online submission systems are a faff.
I totally accept that.

But it seems inadvisable to me to submit an original version of a manuscript, when submitting revisions.

I have also never seen this required before.

Great to see talks at #ISOQOL increasingly reporting information on #MissingData and associated factors.

Just a quick reminder that both #STROBE & #CONSORT guidelines emphasise the use of #EffectSizes instead of significance testing.

Really interesting read!

I wonder:
We have routine access overlap checks for manuscripts. How about using this on #PeerReview reports? It is an arms race, but esp. cruder violations would be visible.

And it would help if editors read reviews... 😂
