After spending a few years with the SONS OF ERIN, he was preparing to launch a solo career with his first album in the works.

In 1950 "The One Man Band From Newfoundland", A. FRANK WILLIS was born.

He's best known for his song "Take Me As I Am" which listeners of VOCM selected as the #1 country hit of 1978.

In 1979, he graced the cover of the NF Herald!

In 1972, VOCM-590 Radio & The St. John’s Rotary Club sponsored GOLD RECORD NIGHT in St. John’s. PREMIER FRANK MOORES presented a Gold Record to DICK NOLAN.

The sale of Dick's album "Fisherman’s Boy" had exceded 100,000 in just a few months!!!! SPECTACULAR!

In 1965, The Evening Telegram reported that The KEATNIKS had cut an album. It was NL's first pop/rock LP.

"That's My Girl", the single, "rose to the top of the music charts from coast-to-coast in Canada, as well as in the United States, Europe, and Australia".

In 1984, Canada's national music industry magazine, RPM Weekly, reported that the Bel Air label was celebrating its 7th anniversary. The label's founder and president was Newfoundlander, BOB COUSINS.

In 1947, seventy-eight years ago, The St. John's Daily News announced that three new songs by ART SCAMMELL would soon be released on disc. This was before the vinyl era—these records were 78 rpm singles made of shellac!

In 1970, Columbia Records ran a full page ad for SULLIVAN'S GYPSIES in Canada's national music industry magazine, RPM Weekly.

I'm not sure, but I think I'm seeing all three members of RYAN'S FANCY ... Dermot O'Rielly, Fergus O'Byrne, and Denis Ryan.

In 1992 EMILE BENOIT, one of Newfoundland and Labrador's most celebrated fiddlers & composers, passed on.

Emile Benoit's achievements have been recognized by many including Memorial University which conferred an honourary Doctorate degree.

In 1972, RPM Weekly advertised the movie "The Rowdyman" which starred Newfoundland's GORDON PINSENT.

The ad also promoted Robbie McDougall's "Love Theme From The Rowdyman". The song charted for 14 weeks on RPM's Middle of the Road Chart, peaking at #1!

In 1970, Clint Curtiss' single of ROY PAYNES' "No Price Tag On The Doors In Newfoundland" was a national hit, charting for eight weeks, and peaking at #23 on RPM Weekly's Country Music Chart.

In 1976, The Western Star reported that Claude Caines & others will develop a recording studio in Stephenville.

Caines said the studio will provide a place where Newfoundlanders can cut records without having to travel to the mainland!

70 years ago in 1955, The St. John's Lions Club featured a Big Street Dance on Water Street on the Eve of The Regatta. Music by 3 top bands: Chrissie Andrews, Leo Michaels, Mickey Duggan). Square Dancing too!

In 1982, Geoff Meeker of The Newfoundland Herald reviewed BRUCE MOSS' debut album "The Islander".

The title track and "Your Last Goodbye" (about the Ocean Ranger tragedy) have since become modern classics.
