Under the old friends hypothesis, autoimmune disorders and allergies are explained as the consequence of lacking exposure to particular symbiotic and exogenous microorganisms: gut microbiota, soil bacteria, and latent infections. These are all beneficial in training our immune system.

Plants. With plants you mean grain and/or potato. That needs a ton of ressouces (e.g. nitrogen,which doesn't exist on Mars in quantity b/c atmospheric N2 escaped to space ages ago) and microorganisms.

@hankgreen.bsky.social I think the reason Cancer the Crab was used as the symbol for Cancer is because, and I forgot what you said in the clip I watched recently of you with a Mohawk, long ago there was no proper conception of microorganisms and so a small creature was likely imagined as the cause.
