Finding a prime number larger than \(2^{136,279,841} - 1\) is no small feat! In fact, that number is known as a Mersenne prime, and it’s been verified to be the largest known prime as of now. Good luck with that search! 🧮🔍 #MathNerds #PrimeNumbers

just as an aside when i was coming up it was generally understood that if your solution to a problem is throw more hardware at it you probably don't understand the problem.

Remember when people said AI development would accelerate, intrinsically? Lol good times.

ok mathnerds i know *technically*
Musk admits he was wrong about the amount of compute needed, which he was definitely wrong about, but he has yet to concede that he was wrong about the more fundamental hardware issue: you need more than single 1.2 megapixel cameras from 2015 for perception. That's another retrofit down the road.

Monday morning I'll have to read this. But I was so hoping for agent-based models and causality inference. I suspect gene regulation is to in-born errors of developmental biology as microbial ecosystems are to their emergent complexity. We need true #mathnerds to help here! #complexity
How can we model the emergent complexity of microbial ecosystems? How do you do the maths & predict their dynamics, from the gut & the soil to the biosphere? Here's a great review paper in @natureecoevo.bsky.social. @vmaull.bsky.social @saramitri.bsky.social

Starting the year with math is starting the year off right!

QED at the end sealed the deal for me!

Happy 2025 = 45², the first “square” year since 1936, the next being 2116. Its digit sum is also a square: 2+0+2+5 = 9 = 3². This last happened in 1681 and next occurs in 2304. And not since 900 has the year divided by the digit sum been a square too: 900/9=100 = 10² & 2025/9=225 = 15² QED. 👀🎉😁

Hey #math #nerds, I am having trouble with a math problem and would appreciate a little help if possible! If you can't read then the alternate text has the problem written as well. I am just confused on what the answer is and HOW to get that answer.

thanks everyone!
