When was the last time you used Mapquest? Well, AI probably used it a second ago.

According to the latest Yext Research study, Mapquest is the #1 cited source in AI for Local queries. Crazy

When my mom was alive I would print out Mapquest directions for her then snail mail them. She had to let me know 7-10 days in advance if she was going somewhere unfamiliar.

Gosh I loved her ❤️

Great, but being first or even in the first wave of the next big thing is not even remotely a guarantee of success.

Alta Vista, Yahoo!, MapQuest. and MySpace say "hi."

I can't believe MapQuest is still active.

I just learned that MapQuest still exists and I feel like I spotted an archaeopteryx in the wild.

Going through my office...found a file of map directions printed from the Internet for different trips. I'm print-directions-from-mapquest years old.

and will be to me too but even Google has already changed it with a statement they follow "government names on gov't pages". I removed Google maps from my phone in protest (use mapquest thru the internet now)

Thank you, I will give MapQuest a try. I really don't use Waze much anymore, and honestly, the quality has gone way done anyway.

This too, like the wide brush (heh) this person is putting on here is that “everything is AI” when the real conversation is specifically about GenAI taking material without permission or trapping artists in an agreement to have their works/likenesses exploited.

We’re not mad about fucking Mapquest.

Believe it or not, MapQuest still exists and they even added a tool to their website that lets you name the Gulf of Mexico whatever you want.

Behold:

Why is google maps wrong so often? Waze had already messed me up mid-trip a dozen or more times.

2007 Mapquest and TomToms were better.
November 14, 2025 at 4:34 PM
Sure Mapquest seems antiquated these days, but I just checked and their map still says Gulf of Mexico. Point for Mapquest.

I used to design ads for a small newspaper and people insisted they needed their entire address, including zip code, in their ad so people could find them on MapQuest.
