Evening drift back to manta tows… yes, it’s “tow,” not “toe” (mantas have zero, we checked). 🩴 This behind-the-boat ride is how we scan reefs fast, spot change, & sometimes meet curious sharks. Reef science (on a leash).

Since we’ve been talking reef health today, let’s talk one of the methods used to monitor it across thousands of square km.
Enter: manta tow.
A survey method so bold it involves a human holding onto a board… being dragged behind a boat. 🧵👇

From Lady Musgrave to Lizard Island, manta tow surveys on the GBR or NW Hawaiian Island are part of how we know what’s happening beneath the surface.
It’s fast, it’s a little wild, and it works.
Just don’t splash too much.
