Mike Johnson: "We're fighting for healthcare as well. Not just in word but in deed. We put in the one big beautiful bill, real reforms to Medicaid to make it work better."

(The bill in fact cuts nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid.)

72M Americans rely on Medicaid. 41% of US births are paid for by Medicaid. Medicaid is nursing home care primary payer, affecting patients & their adult children. Estimated 36M could lose healthcare coverage as a result of the Republican bill. Protest!
Let's show up. Let's organize. Let's win.

Fervently believe Ds should embrace a "Medicaid for All" approach that allows anyone to buy into their state Medicaid. Everyone gets universal basic coverage. Use ACA exchanges for supplemental coverage. Employers can offer coverage of the exchanges.

Every time food stamps are slashed, a chain reaction starts

poverty → desperation → crime → more prisoners → more profit.

Stop acting like it’s coincidence.

Remember what’s coming: first, kill Affordable Care credits, doubling costs for tens of millions; then, cut Medicare half a trillion (sleazily, automatically) hurting seniors; then cut Medicaid by a trillion, pounding doctors, hospitals and nursing homes. It’s why we fight.

The General Assembly should be rushing to fully fund Medicaid and pay teachers and law enforcement what they’re worth. Instead, they’re rushing to take away your power as a voter.

Trump has decimated funding for Medicaid, SNAP, and crucial agencies like FEMA and the CFPB.

Now, he's demanding his cronies at DOJ give him a ludicrous $230M in taxpayer funds as "compensation" for past investigations.

He's picking your pockets to line his own.

i am also a little skeptical of the idea that people on medicaid don’t know they are on medicaid because it’s named something different. like, i live with my partner who is on OHP, i have seen the paperwork
i do sometimes wonder if your awareness of this depends on adoption in the state you live in; in oregon, for example, virtually *everyone* knows someone on OHP, oregon has pushed really hard to ensure everyone gets covered

like yeah sure the ACA was far from perfect (although “expansion of the welfare state was hard fought but woefully incomplete” is basically the history of american social policy), but it is difficult to overstate how important the Medicaid expansion has been to expanding health care access

in its original form the medicaid expansion was basically mandatory and would have very clearly formed the nucleus of a genuinely universal system. and in its neutered form (thanks john roberts) it is still a powerful policy that can be built on and expanded in straightforward ways

At a Colorado clinic, neither appointments nor private insurance is desirable—Medicaid is preferred. The clinic sustains itself with no issues. Helen Ouyang reports on what makes this possible, and why cuts to Medicaid won’t greatly affect the practice.
