Finally started work on the character select screen.
Still need to add more elements (character descriptions, backgrounds, etc.), but it's functional at least.

1996 or 7 was when I learned QBasic in school and started learning how to make games with it, esp NES style games, then learned C++ and allegro for SNES style games lol
now I use Love2d and Lua, though I'm going to go back to C/C++ and Raylib at some point methinks

I can generate the map now (also I had fun with "biome sprites"), also I'm working now on buildings and better walking (collision code is awful ngl)

love2d has been an absolute blast to work in for a variety of reasons (lightweight but has the important stuff covered) but the fact that web targeting via emscripten works feels like a blessing. resizing/window management across targets was a little bit of a snag but works well enough to be happy

Possibly changing tactics with the onrails shooter, couldn't get it to work right with love2D. I understand all of them used 3D chips/engines but I thought with clever enough parallax it could work. At best it adds some nice atmosphere right now. /shurg #struggle #gamedev

I gave myself the challenge to make a game in LÖVE over the weekend. I ended up going a little bit over the deadline because I didn't find music for it until Monday morning, but I still consider it a success. This is ASTRO BURST, a basic vertical space shooter game.
