Businesses have noticed this is a leftwing government. Farmers have noticed. The globally mobile rich have noticed. Basically the only people who don’t think this is a leftwing government are the people who want one.

Indeed. One reason why I think 'be more rightwing', 'be more leftwing' is the wrong frame is...the government doesn't appear to have a strategy for tackling 'petty' crime! That is not a problem of being insufficiently leftwing or insufficiently rightwing, it's just a problem!

Milovan Djilas was probably the most leftwing of all the dissidents in the communist block. He always remained a Marxist, while most other leftwing dissidents eventually became disillusioned with Marxism. But he is still worth reading.

The problem with the government’s Blue Labour turn is not that it is too leftwing or too rightwing, tho IMV it is both, it is that it is completely divorced from “what do we want the spending rounds in 2027-8 and 2028-9 to look like?”

Hate to disagree in part. But the effective false branding of the democrats as leftwing radicals by a massive right-wing propaganda machine has amplified a misconception. The right has moved equally to the right of center if not more.

But Jetten is not by instinct a rightwinger, and the momentum is on the left. Polls of D66 members show they overwhelmingly want a centre left coalition. D66+JA21 is a very awkward marriage. So i think this option is unlikely - unless an attempt at a leftwing grouping fails

The international news story about the Dutch elections is sadly misleading: fewer votes were cast for leftwing parties, while the far right remained stable. And Geert Wilders may yet come out on top.

If Twitter had always been X, no government would have touched it with a barge pole.
Demanding that our govt decouples from Elon Musk and moves to Bluesky isn't some sort of leftwing conceit. The social/moral hazard of remaining on X has passed any meaningful tipping point.

Tyler Robinson is not “leftwing” as much as they want ppl to believe it. He’s a kid from a Republican, gun-nut, family in Utah. Even the UT governor said “he’s one of us”. Ask yourself why haven’t we seen or heard anymore about him?

It's actually not obvious, since voters consistently said their #1 issue was the economy, which isn't immigration or trans issues or crime or any of the areas where leftwing policy is unpopular. What's actually obvious is that the election was decided by inflation.

This is why elections have to be used to elect leftwing candidates rather than liberal centrists and free speech has to be used to educate the people as to why the business & political elite cause unnecessary suffering domestically and overseas.

It’s very complicated but ultimately boils down to: would Rob Jetten rather lead a stable rightwing government with JA21 and the VVD? Or a less stable leftwing one with PvdA? I think (hope) the latter
(Or will the VVD pivot to tolerating the PvdA under a new leader, and make another option viable?)
