Having two wives at the same time seems to have been fashionable in the 11th century. So, following on from Elisiv of Kyiv, here's a look at Thora, Harald Hardrada’s Other Wife

Harald Hardrada's story is almost just a byline in King & Conqueror. And yet his story, and that of his wives, is fascinating,, even if some of the information, especially on Elisiv of Kyiv, is elusive

I guess the complete disregard for facts at least keeps us all guessing about who will win at Hastings in #KingAndConqueror 🤷🏻‍♀️

As the #bbc's (sadly disappointing IMHO) series #kingandconqueror is in full flow, I thought it a good time to revisit this @privateeyenews.bsky.social #cartoon #normanconquest #military #history #design

Before #kingandconqueror it HAS to be a rewatch of the great Robert Bartlett's definitive history of the Normans called, er, The Normans!

:/ #KingAndConqueror #JamesNorton stated "I wasn't aware of the relationship Harold & William had before the battle [1066] that they were friends & allies for many years" that's because, MrNorton, they weren't! Try my novel it's more accurate! viewbook.at/HaroldTheKing

For all the people saying that you need a lot of background knowledge for #KingAndConqueror, it doesn’t really help.

I’m sure I am not alone in being busy with Google/Wikipedia during and after #KingAndConqueror. Sort of history we rushed through in about Yr 3 or 4, so needed to look it all up as TV timeline seemed (and is) way off.

Also a combination of budget and TV convention means that Very Important People keep popping out for a three hundred mile trek more or less unaccompanied, and every location is represented by around 8 people. #KingAndConqueror

The best intro to the process of the conquest for me is Brian Golding's 'Conquest and Colonisation'. @benpohl.bsky.social has edited a Cambridge companion to the age of William which takes a thematic approach. #KingAndConqueror 2/
