Amaravati, Oct 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Severe cyclonic storm Montha in the Bay of Bengal has started making landfall near Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday night. Latest observations indicate that the landfall process has commenced and will continue for the next 3-4 hours, the IMD said in a bulletin. The maximum wind speed at the time of landfall is likely to be 90-110 km per hour.

Andhra Braces for Cyclone Montha Landfall; IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Strong Winds 'Severe cyclonic storm' The cyclone, currently over the west-central Bay of Bengal, is likely to strengthen into a “severe cyclonic storm” with wind speeds of 90–100 kmph and gusts up to 110 kmph before crossing the coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam.“The SCS Montha moved north-northwestwards and at 1430 hrs IST of 28th Oct, it lay about 70 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, 150 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 250 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 480 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha),” the IMD said in a post on X.

Indian authorities have shut schools and evacuated tens of thousands of people from low-lying coastal areas as the country’s eastern seaboard braces for the impact of Cyclone Montha later Tuesday.
