January 24, 2021: my garden was full of loads of different bird species. This was a regular sight on the feeder: lesser redpoll, siskin, goldfinch. We still get the odd goldfinch, but probably haven’t seen the other two since then. This is worrying. #urbannature #irishnature #speirgorm #spéirgorm

Today’s sundown walk was down the East Pier in #DunLaoghaire. Before I pounded down the pier I enjoyed the view with a friendly juvie Herring Gull, who was sporting a smart leg ring. (Ringed in Dublin, I think. I am hunting down the ringing project.) #IrishNature #birds #birding

The last light on this chilly December day on the West Pier in #DunLaoghaire. Watched the fishing boat go out and set crab traps. Then a young herring gull strode along next to me for a while, very proud of the whelk he’d caught. I think I heard him say “Mine! All mine!” #irishnature #birds

A young gull is holding a large bit of broken whelk shell in his gaping beak. He's very pleased with himself. I'm not sure why I think he's a bloke.
