Anvil clouds, or cumulonimbus incus if you prefer, lining up to hammer down on the mainland. Luckily it’s not in my nature to feel smug as Hamish and I wander along the beach bathed in glorious sunshine.
*I know I’ll pay for this when another storm arrives tomorrow (ferries already cancelled).

Watching a cumulus congestus transforming into a cumulonimbus endlessly fascinating. As soon as the upper regions reach the tropopause (the boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere) they start to spread out, forming an incus, the well known anvil shape of a storm cloud.
