#IceSheet
We’re attending the IGS Nordic Branch Meeting 2025 in Copenhagen, at GEUS. Great to meet colleagues, hear exciting talks, and spark new discussions on ice, climate and modelling ❄️🧊📊

If we're getting bases back, I say we demand the return of Camp Century, because super secret atomic powered missile base buried in the Greenland icesheet is just the sort of leverage we need to bring down the cost of groceries.

An advantage of flying the long way round back from Japan is seeing greenland from the air, the northern lights out the window and technically crossing off the bucket list item of circumnavigating the globe.

Listen, I don't need two guys who are such wimps they won't use their real names to appear in my notifications making *ironic* sarcastic remarks to show how clever they are.

You're not helping. Take yourself away from here please. 🧹

Greenland’s ice is cracking faster as glaciers accelerate due to climate change. A new study in Nature Geoscience finds crevasses are growing deeper and larger, driving ice loss and sea level rise. DOI: doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Been back out in the field this week collecting nearly the rest of samples needed to date the Port Huron Moraine built by the Saginaw Lobe of the Laurentide #IceSheet. Hunting for #MichiganErratics in the “Thumb” of #Michigan has been hard because of centuries of farming and other land use

Looking forward to welcoming the @OceanIceEU community to #DMIDk today for our annual meeting. I think I'm correct in saying it's the first time we have had such a large gathering of #Antarctic focused #science here at the institute, though I doubt it will be the last

If I didn't have 2 papers to (re)submit and two reports due at the ECMWF and ESA, I would write a quick blog post on how interesting it is that our modelled melt over the #greenlabd #icesheet on the @polarportal and the satellite derived melt areas almost but don't quite match, and why that […]

Dear Heard Islanders - please be on the lookout for strange creatures in silly red hats waving flags. These are an ugly, alien, unintelligent life form capable only of mumbling. Drive towards the nearest icesheet & push out to sea or lure into a crevasse. They're looking for cheap eggs. Stay safe

GEUS have been managing a monitoring network on the #Greenland #iceSheet for many years.
They have now consolidated the US GC-Net with PROMICE weather station data, and the updated SUMUP surface mass budget datasets

I created lifeundertheice.org so that folks could appreciate the smallest animals (+ other creatures) that live in Antarctica.

It’s a fun resource for all ages.

There’s tons of life in Antarctica that we could lose beyond Emperor penguins. Their futures are highly uncertain in a changing climate.🧪

It's chilly in #Denmark today but a warm anomaly over #Greenland + #Arctic + this often means #snow. Polar portal shows a filament of moist air stretching from mid-lats to SW Greenland - a wetter corner of the planet - where it's nourishing the #IceSheet.
