In autumn 2024, Sweden already expressed interest into the IAAD initiative, which is the predecessor of the EAAD initiative. They ended up contributing SEK 300 million (~€26.15 million) to the initiative, which were used to pay Romania for the MIM-104 Patriot fire unit handed over to Ukraine.

Already last year, Belgium generously contributed to the German IAAD initiative with a total of €200 million and additional air defence equipment, which was or will be handed over to Ukraine.

This would make Belgium the second country after Norway (I reported on this at the beginning of July) to participate in the relaunched and now renamed IAAD (now EAAD). I have already made an enquiry to the Belgian Ministry of Defence to verify the statement.

I have a theory that it might have to do with the relaunch of the IAAD initiative, now called EAAD initiative. When Germany first launched the IAAD initiative, Norway financed Patriot missiles alongside other countries from Bundeswehr stocks for Ukraine. So they might have just done it again.

This has been proposed a few times, and is complicated because most countries consider sunscreen a cosmetic and not a medicine, and standards for manufacturing are all over the place. But our rep at the UN and other global albinism groups are still at it. 🤍 Here's to another ten years of IAAD!

It was also announced that the Immediate Action on Air Defence initiative (IAAD) launched by Germany, which has supported Ukraine's air defence forces with more than €1 billion in pledged and delivered equipment, would be revived and renamed “Enduring Action on Air Defence” (EAAD).
