5) the idea of "feudalism" was invented by renaissance humanists trying to explain and rationalize the features of the world around them. But in fact all of these features can be explained as received norms and traditions rather than this nesting hierarchy of obligations tied to land leases

The 'criteria' are the problem. In fact, the elitist language in general, which drives the debate into obscure corners to be easily ambushed and shouted down.
A struggle between simple @Humanists and the rest would be more productive.
Everyone knows what @Humanism is without reading books.

Don't paint yourselves into a rhetorical corner with negatives.
Just be HUMANISTS, and see who dares to negate Humanist values.

Ones who have never read let alone understood the gospels; same as extremists of any faith and religion.

The problem with religions are the followers and not the message.

Humanists have no books to quote from and misinterpret - they make a conscious decision to be better without reward.

We love this quote by the late, great, and much missed Sir Terry Pratchett.

Sir Terry was a longtime supporter of Humanists UK and an Honorary Associate of the National Secular Society.

Do you have a favorite Terry Pratchett quote or character? If so, please let us know in the comments! 👇

Let's start with language, which defines thought.
Meaningless gibberish like 'Left' and 'Right' are a gift to barbarians of all kinds. The substitution of 'radicalised' for 'fanaticised' is another.
Humanists should let the opposition decide how to oppose Human values.

WORD DUSTBIN 2: ‘LEFT’ AND ‘RIGHT’
In every newspaper and website the political squabbling drags on, and two words are largely guilty of miring it in the muck. In every newspaper and website the political squabbling drags on, and tw…

I was 1 of 14 women & 3 humanists honored last night. Most honored glitter w/multi-million dollar grants, armies of grads & undergrads, intimate ties to industry & buzzwords.

I’m a trained digital humanist but/& my work now elevates analog/human-made & it was nice even there kindred folks found me.
There will be a huge trend piece around August 2028 about,”all the northeastern families are choosing these small liberal arts colleges in the Midwest that promise an artisanal degree!”
Those of us who are perennially 5 years behind and too small to jump on the bleeding edge of "innovation" will all of a sudden be looking pretty wise. That used to be a much bigger portion of higher ed.

Secular humanists of every type may ridicule the Bible, but they cannot escape it; and in their obsession with change, calls for reform, doomsday warnings, and utopian visions, they continue to steal from it.

Caring about the planet and all species means the inclusion of the care for people.

Early 20thC humanists like the prolific writer and campaigner Henry S Salt recognised the importance of this connection.

He was an ethicist, vegetarian, and pacifist. Today, he would also be an "ecosocialist".
