The grasses and flowers describe a gentle slope from the left-to-right across the frame, starting at about a third of the way up the image and exiting at about a fifth of the way up from the bottom. Three stark tree trunks arise from the grass, the one on the far right has old, dead branches sticking out of it. More trees are visible behind the trio at the edge, slowly disappearing into the dark of the forest the further back you go.

Aggregating Anemone, tide pool in Hug Point State Recreation Area on the Oregon Coast. Horizontal image: the anemone has closed down to protect itself as the falling tide has left it above water. Its black outer surface is encrusted with shattered bits of sea shells in white, yellow, orange and even one with purple. The green center of the anemone is surrounded by white retraced tentacles. In the center, one can see the striations and structures of the creature.

Aggregating Anemones wait for the sea water to return to their tide pool in Hug Point State Recreation Area on the Oregon Coast. The anemones glisten with water, but are closed, and covered in small shells, shell fragments, and pebbles. Still, the purple of their arms is visible. The focal point of the image is two stacked anemones in the center of the frame, one pointing slightly down, while theater is almost horizontal. To the left and right, falling into the out-of-focus areas of the image, are more anemones.

Water drips steadily off sea lettuce in a rocky overhang in Hug Point State Recreation Area on the Oregon Coast at low tide. Vertical image: the strands of sea lettuce come down into the frame from just inside the top right corner. They cling to the underside of a cliff that's inclined down and to the left. The vibrant green sea lettuce is a conduit for and saturated by water dripping down the cliff to the beach below. The sea lettuce is reaches slight more than halfway down the image, and there, captured at the moment just before gravity pulls it loose, hangs a water droplet reflecting the surroundings. More sea lettuce is visible in the out of focus areas behind the main subject, the distinct greens contrasting with the yellows and darker tones of the rock face.

A shell hunter is dwarfed by the clouds, sea stacks and fog-shrouded mountains as she combs the beach at Hug Point State Recreation Area in Oregon at low tide. Horizontal image, 2:1 aspect ratio: in the foreground, the beach. As your eye moves up through the scene, a tendril of water snakes in from the left, and loops around to almost make it back to the sea near mid frame, and about a quarter-way up the frame. from the right, thin straight run of water from a creek joins the loop from the left, as do shadows from from the cliff out of the frame to the viewer's right. Just above this meeting point, the lone shell hunter, combs the beach in a plum hoodie. Beyond her are the sea, and then sea stacks to the right of the image. Here, fog rolls in, partially obscuring the jagged sea stack and the forested cliffs of Hug Point itself. Off the end of the point, more sea stacks are visible through the mist. Above the point, and sitting low enough to block the top of the cliffs and the trees there is a white cloud. Above the cloud, taking up the top 1/5th of the image, is blue sky.

Morning Sunbeams, Hug Point, Oregon

Towering trees along the cliff line cut the morning sun into a multitude of beams made visible by the fog and low-lying clouds.

Black-and-White photograph, horizontal image, 2:1 Aspect ration: Towering trees along the cliff line at the top right of the image cut the morning sun into a multitude of beams made visible by the fog and low-lying clouds. In the top left, another tree-line cliff slopes down, forest made hazy by the fog. In center, a creek trickles through the small valley it's cut in the cliffs, and trickles over a huge bolder, creating a small waterfall. The lack of recent rain has reduced the waterfall to mere rivulets, but still the creek flows onto the beach and into the ocean. The smooth beach along the bottom of the frame is dappled with patches of sunlight that have slipped through the trees.

Aggregating Anemones, in a tide pool in Hug Point State Recreation Area on the Oregon Coast. These anemones' bodies are still, barely, below water, which means they have their pink tentacles out at the ready to paralyze any small creatures which blunder into them. Horizontal image: at the top left is some sea lettuce, which leads the eye to the main, shell-encrusted, anemone, whose pink tentacles sill wave in the water, hoping for food. In the upper right is an anemone that has been exposed by the retreating tide and has pulled its tentacles in to conserve water, and in the lower left, further underwater, another anemone also has its tentacles unfurled. The lower right of the image shows other features deeper in the tide pool, rendered mostly unrecognizable by the distortion of the water.

One of the Points in Hug Point State Recreation Area in Oregon. Horizontal image: in the foreground is the sandy beach with a hug log pointing generally at the cave at the base of the cliff behind. The beach and most of the cliff are lit by the blue sky above as the rising sun has not cleared the Coastal Range to camera right. The point rises dramatically out of the beach. About two thirds of the way up, the rock is covered by shrubs and trees finally able to grow above the high tide line. In the center of the base of the cliff is a cave: just to cave left, a section of the cliff is bathed in the orange light of the rising sun sneaking through the mountains and trees to the east. Just to the left of the edge of the point you can see the beach continue on. There's a pair of beach goers there, tiny compared to the point. Behind them, a cloud/fog bank clings to the ocean on the horizon. Atop the cliff, a row of trees, top thirds illuminated by the rising sun, break up the blue sky.
