I think it is beautifully appropriate that the closest I've ever gotten to dying in my sailboat was off Nixon's Nose.

60km/h winds, no engine, zero visibility, broken autopilot, headwind and travelling against the current.

I sought refuge in his nostril (Hesquiat Harbour) which was gorgeous.

I've wondered about this as a sailor for a very long time: was the coastal shelf at Estevan Point on the Hesquiat Peninsula, which is abnormally broad, flat, and uncharacteristically (for that part of the coast) tidal in nature, created during that earthquake?

I recently discovered the work of photographer Edward Curtis

100 years ago he documented many of the native tribes of North America

The faces are majestic and beautiful and I can't help but see 1491

1 Arapahoe
2 Tsawatenok
3 Hesquiat
4 Hopi
