Agonising over which book to start next is one of the greatest pleasures of life.

Is it not?

Banu Mushtaq’s Heart Lamp: A Testament To Endurance
Heart Lamp is a collection of twelve selected stories, and almost every story is rife with emotion, apathy, and the barbaric treatment of women

Heart Lamp by Banu Mushtaq just made literary history.

It’s the first short story collection and the first book originally written in Kannada to win the International Booker Prize.

"Turning away from spoon-fed translation, #HeartLamp does ask a lot of its reader, but both Banu Mushtaq and translator Deepa Bhasthi, believe we are up to the job."

In #BanuMushtaq’s “Heart Lamp”, one encounters experiences of patriarchy, tradition, misogyny, and age-old customs that, in many ways, curtail a woman’s—and particularly, Muslim women’s—abilities to navigate society.

Finished around 40% of #HeartLamp by #BanuMushtaq. It feels so dry, may be an issue with the translation. So to wash it down, I started to read the novella #NoOneWritesToTheColonel by #Marquez also. It's short, sweet and live. #BookSky

In a week awash with Cannefluencers, watching #BanuMushtaq and #DeepaBhasthi hug as they won the International Booker for #HeartLamp was beautiful. It was an embrace saturated with so many worlds. (Also, the book is beautiful). This week's #ParonormalActivity
