“Voilà!” With a smile Kaveh rose to his feet, legs somewhat numb from crouching, one hand gesturing around and the other reaching for Alhaitham’s. “Almost looks like home.”

Alhaitham hummed. Snuck an arm around Kaveh to pull him closer.

“All this time criticising my taste in decoration and now you want to scatter sand about the living room?”

“I read a paper, when we were at Pardis Dhyai.” Alhaitham began as Kaveh piled up the empty plates that had been full of fruit to carry them to the kitchen. “According to it, excessive caffeine consumption is linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.”

Because Kaveh was, unlike somebody else, considerate, he resisted the urge to ask whether Alhaitham had by any chance read any paper that detailed how witnessing an idiot barely survive a twelve metre fall and dreaming of it every night for the following ten days affected one’s health.

“I read another one, about economics,” he replied instead. “Well, not a paper, but a picture book.

“It says it’s hard to make money while you sleep.”

Alhaitham passed him his empty glass. “Not as hard as it would be from the grave.”

“Too tight?” he asked, the hand he wasn’t holding the rope with cupping Alhaitham’s chin. He gently squeezed when all he got as a response was a head shake. “Oi, don’t fall asleep.”

“I may.” Alhaitham opened his eyes and craned his head to the side in time to see Kaveh’s expression go from worry to exasperation. “Are you done yet?”

“Almost.”

“You said that ten minutes ago.”

“It was two.”

“Hours? That’s what it felt like.” Alhaitham’s gaze trailed across his bedroom, landed on the nightstand. “Bring me my book. At least I want to read while you finish your decorative rope knotting.”

Now it was Kaveh’s turn to sigh—but he jumped straight to raising his voice. “This was your idea!”

Kaveh resisted the urge to laugh. At Alhaitham’s confusion, but mostly at his own stupidity.

“Do you need a diagram?” he huffed instead. “I didn’t mean to. I tried to be vague, but she kept asking questions and…”

“…you thought she’d stop if you told her we’re dating?”

Kaveh swallowed down. Indeed, his mother had stopped at that.

(A series of white lies has led Kaveh's mother to believe he's living with his partner. Now she's visiting Sumeru, and he needs Alhaitham's help.)

“He kicked me out,” he told the tahchin, as if the dish were at fault. Tighnari and Cyno were only accidental witnesses.

Yet they, unlike the rice, could interrupt their conversation.

“…Alhaitham?” Tighnari asked, the disbelief in his voice a personal affront.

Kaveh looked up. “Who else?”

Cyno, who had swapped his plate for Tighnari’s to have a second portion, reached for his glass to ease a mouthful of food down his throat before pointing at Kaveh with his fork, somewhat accusingly.

“Maybe you misinterpreted him.”

Anger clawed up Kaveh’s throat so abruptly that for a second he was light-headed. Without a word, he got to his feet, strode out of the living room and into the kitchen to fetch the folder Alhaitham had given him the way one offers lethal poison.

“He prepared a damn list—” he hissed, setting it on the table. Outside, thunder shook the night to its foundations, dyeing the edges of his vision red— “of places I can move to.”

Gingerly, Tighnari grabbed the folder and opened it. Any other day, under different circumstances, Kaveh would have felt vindicated when his friend’s mouth fell open—but now he only felt like crying. Something about saying it aloud, about offering proof, made the matter more real.

“It’s so thorough,” Tighnari said, impressed. “It even has notes on the landlords.”

“Of course it does. Alhaitham made it.”

No, the part of him that refused to fall for self-pity protested. No, this was different. This time Alhaitham knew better—this time he had measured his every word. This time nobody had yelled or spoken words that would be never brought up again, not even to apologise for the blood they'd drawn. And this time Kaveh would return—he had to, because all his belongings were still in his room and he wouldn’t leave Mehrak behind. He would come back.

…And then he would pack his things and leave once and for all.

It would be good for him. Otherwise Alhaitham wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of looking through every notice board in Sumeru City the day prior, woken up at dawn to check them out himself and compiled a detailed list for him. Having a place to himself would be good for Kaveh.

It would benefit Alhaitham too. No more arguments. No more hammering in the adjacent room at an ungodly time because waiting until the morning was apparently not an acceptable option. No more overly ornate food that took ages to prepare. No more discussions going on for hours better invested reading. No more weekly trips to Lambad’s before the matra were called or settling an extra tab. No more nights spent watching after his inebriated roommate and imagining, for a moment, that the insistence in the arms thrown around his waist was the result of anything other than too much alcohol.

It would be good for the two of them. It had to, because it was happening, as certain as the sun rising tomorrow.

A silly little drabble that I came up with when talking with yours truly @izerna.bsky.social

It's been a while, but I still like it so much that I have put it into a nice layout for everyone to enjoy.

Kaveh is determined to learn how to dominate, but he doesn't know how to go about it. Luckily, Alhaitham offers to help.
Haikavetham Drabble

"We should start small," Kaveh mutters, "after all, you haven't really done it often."

He lets his words linger, but when he turns, Alhaitham regards him with his signature
flat look.

"Is that what I do to you?" He asks after a moment of careful consideration.

Kaveh bristles. "Tsk, No! You always go for the biggest toy you can fi– wait a second!"

A thought crashes through his mind like a thunderbolt splitting a tree.

"Go on," Alhaitham edges, a smug smile on his stupidly handsome face.

Kaveh scans the shelves, and there it is. It's big, it's massive, and it comes with a name: Marilyn and Kaveh knows, it's going to look divine all the way up Alhaitham's sturdy ass.

He grabs it, turns around and observes Alhaitham’s expression tentatively.

"We're going with this one," he declares firmly, "because I know you can take it."

Alhaitham's expression morphs from bored to outright beaming.

"Good boy," he purrs, and Kaveh feels his trousers getting awfully tight.

Lost in Fiction a Haikavetham Teacher AU

"That was unexpected," Kaveh says, looking after the boy with the curly chocolate-brown hair.

"Maybe for you. But Setho's been pinning after the Inazuma fellow ever since he arrived. You should have seen him when Scaramouche entered my classroom for the first time. He almost forgot to breathe. Wasn't able to answer a question afterwards. He reminds me of myself, really."

Kaveh's eyebrows crinkle in confusion. "How so?"

Alhaitham turns and effectively traps Kaveh between his broad form and the wooden desk behind him.

Kaveh moulds into him, enjoying the warmth radiating from his boyfriend.
Boyfriend, I like the ring of that.

"Don't you remember the day you had to show this new Junior around the Campus?" Alhaitham says.

"You mean yourself? Of course, I do! You were so cute back then. You even blushed just holding my hand– wait a second."
Alhaitham's lips curl up at the corner of his mouth. "I've dreamed about you ever since, Delbaram."

Kaveh's heart does this annoying thing - it stops for a second and then threatens to burst through his ribcage the next moment.

"Please" is all Kaveh manages to say before he fears Alhaitham will have his way with him in the lecture hall.

"Please what?" his Junior utters between soft kisses to his burning skin.

"Let's go home." Kaveh finally manages.

“No, the forest cabbages! You’re a fungus yourself,” Haitham pouted, causing Kaveh to burst into laughter, followed by a playful nudge. “Why are you hitting me?”

“Because you are a fungus. Puffed up like a puffball,” Kaveh laughed merrily and retrieved a textbook from his bag. “Come on, stop sulking. I don't know what you're talking about, but I know the third conjugation is terrible. Conjugate the verb "to have" for me. All ten tenses!”
