Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The gender snapshot 2025
This edition spotlights the latest evidence on gender equality. In just over a decade, the Sustainable Development Goals have generated significant changes for women and girls. They have spurred new laws upholding women’s rights and led to measurable increases in women’s education and well-being. Yet progress remains far short of ambition. With five years left to reach the Goals, this report outlines bold investments and actions to accelerate progress.

It explores the limits of census data in capturing women’s roles. Right now, women’s contributions—particularly unpaid care—are not fully captured, especially at the local level. Closing these gaps is essential to shaping gender-responsive policies and tackling inequality.

Gender data gaps limit progress on #GenderEquality.
Investing in #GenderData drives transformative change. Without inclusive and gender-sensitive data, we can't fully understand or address the disparities women, girls, and gender-diverse people face globally.

In a landscape shaped by stigma, silence, and uneven access, good intentions aren’t enough. You need data that speaks to local realities.

Out of 193, only 25 have a woman as head of state or government.
The numbers remind us: there's still work to do.
But they also remind us: women are leading countries, shaping futures, and breaking barriers.

Is there a recommended/new package to derive gender estimates from (first name/American/contemporary) names? It appears that ‘genderdata’ package doesn’t work anymore, and genderizeR is API based and limited to 1k calls a day.
