With five major construction projects in progress, the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP) is supporting thousands of jobs for construction workers. This video from the Gateway Development Commission (GDC) shines a spotlight on the men and women building the HTP via interviews with workers on the ground and an up-close look at the construction currently in progress. The HTP is the nation’s most urgent mass transit infrastructure project, which will provide reliable, 21st century train service into, out of, and through New York, and end the immediate threat posed by the 115-year-old tunnel between New Jersey and New York. It involves building nine miles of new passenger rail track, including a new, two-tube tunnel under the Hudson River, and rehabilitating the existing tunnel, which is a source of chronic delays for hundreds of thousands of daily passengers. These active projects are supporting 20,200 jobs and $4.5 billion in economic output. In total, construction of the HTP is projected to support 95,000 jobs and $19.6 billion in economic activity.
