On the eve of the Dodgers winning the World Series 😉, LA Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez introduced a resolution urging Metro to officially reject the Dodger Stadium gondola project.

It's signed by representatives of CD1, CD14, and CD13, all districts directly impacted by Dodger Stadium traffic
WHEREAS, pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) guidelines, the Gondola was required to undergo an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) due to its potentially significant environmental effects on the surrounding area; and WHEREAS, under the California Public Utilities Code and CEQA, the Los Angeles County (County) Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) serves as the designated lead agency responsible for reviewing mass transit projects in the County, including approving all plans related to the design, construction, and implementation of the project; and WHEREAS, the project would permanently remove more than 160 trees, eliminate 9,320 square feet of tree canopy cover and 2,195 square feet of public park property, and disturb local natural habitats, causing permanent environmental degradation in one of the City’s most park-poor neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, the proposed Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit (LA ART) project, commonly referred to as the “Gondola,” is a private, unfunded. $500 million aerial transportation project initiated in 2018 and spearheaded by Frank McCourt, former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and current part- owner of the stadium's parking lot, aimed to connect Dodger Stadium to Union Station along a 1.2 mile route passing through Chinatown and the Los Angeles State Historic Park, located primarily in Council District 1; and WHEREAS, the proposed project consists of overhead cables, three passenger stations, a non-passenger junction, multiple towers, and gondola cabins that would encroach upon public open space, fly as low as 40 feet above homes and businesses in Chinatown and 26 feet above the State Historic Park, and significantly alter the quality of life of residents; and WHEREAS, according to the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, the majority of the census tracts within the project footprint area are ranked among the top 5% of areas in the State with the highest pollution burden and exposu… WHEREAS, the FEIR inadequately addressed the construction noise impacts and failed to consult with the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, but was nonetheless certified by Metro on February 22. 2024; and WHEREAS, on March 25. 2024, the Los Angeles Park Alliance filed a lawsuit challenging Metro’s approval of the EIR and called for the California State Court of Appeals to reverse certification of the LA ART’s EIR; and WHEREAS, on May 1, 2025, the California State Court of Appeals challenged Metro's approval of the environmental review, reaffirming the public’s concerns over the FEIR and requiring a supplemental EIR; and WHEREAS, following the close of the public comment period on November 13, 2025, the Metro Board will consider the DSEIR and determine whether to certify the Final EIR based on the findings contained in the supplemental report; WHEREAS, on April 5, 2024, the Council adopted a Motion (Hernandez - Soto-Martinez - Rodriguez), Council File 24-0011-S4, authorizing the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) to commission a comprehensive traffic assessment of the “community impact zones” around Dodger Stadium and to preclude the City from issuing permit clearances, entitlements, land use changes, or general plan amendments for the LA ART project until completion of the study; and WHEREAS, on August 13, 2025, the Council adopted a Resolution (Hernandez - Jurado), Council File 25-0002-S31, opposing Section 3 of Senate Bill 71 (Wiener), which sought to extend CEQA exemptions for qualifying transportation projects, including the LA ART project, and to limit any legal challenge under state and local law to a 12-month period; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by adoption of this Resolution, the City of Los Angeles hereby OPPOSES the Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit (LA ART) project, and URGES the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), in its consideration of the Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the LA AR…

Above him floated a blue and green sign depicting the continents and oceans of some garden world beside what could only be the name of the restaurant. I didn’t recognize the language, clearly different from the local script, but its tag read “Hot Noodles”. And on her own behind the counter, a small person—a child. A Human child. I supposed we still weren’t terribly far from Human space, but I was surprised to have encountered two in a matter of eightdays—and this one evidently lived here. Clarke’s anxious mood seemed to melt away as she strode towards the shop. Quirin rushed after her, eir father and I trailing behind. “Hello!” Clarke smiled at the child behind the counter. The girl wore the same colourful robes and elaborate headwrap as the Lakshanbroan residents, albeit with fewer beads. I realized she was younger than I had first guessed, not even old enough for her translator implant, if her brightly-coloured earpiece was any indication. Despite that, the child was clearly old enough to take orders—though not everyone’s, it seemed. “Mama!” the child yelped, hopping off the stool. She stared up at Clarke, her eyes wider than I thought possible. “Mama, there’s a Human!’ Clarke blinked. The other customer abruptly turned and walked away, taking his meal with him. A second Human, dressed much the same as the child, strode through the beaded curtain at the back of the shop and stepped in front of the young one protectively. The child peered out at Clarke, clutching her mother’s robes. “Hi,” Clarke tried again. “We were shopping and saw—” “Listen,” ‘Mama’ said firmly. “We want no trouble here. We’re peaceful, hard-working folk, so with all kindness, miss, if you’d like something to eat, please order. And if not, please keep walking.” “Uh,” Clarke said.

We never learn; amazing that right now the city is moving full steam ahead on a project their own EIR says will make traffic worse!

Absolutely grabbing this. There are a lot of amazing things about Gender Queer, but I think the thing that spoke to me the most was Maia's experiences with fandom and fan fiction and how those intersected with eir experience of emself as a queer person.

OK I finally watched this video. AAAAAAAH. The environmental review indicates that it will make traffic worse and it says to proceed anyway!!!!!!
Section 4.8.5.4.1 of the Draft EIR, the proposed Project improvement would add 5.8 lane miles to the roadway network, which would result in a total long-term, cumulative induced impact of 18,220 VMT from non-airport trips related to the proposed Project roadway network. This is considered to be substantial additional VMT and would be a significant impact. There are no feasible mitigation measures to directly address the induced VMT impact. As such, induced VMT would be a significant and unavoidable impact.

videocassette being a muppet was very surprising at first but it actually makes a lot of sense: eir aversion to swearing and adult topics for one. eir fixation on old media also brings some clarity: some of our most treasured VHS tapes were puppet shows. the brain just chose a form that fit best
