Denge sound (acoustic) mirrors. Built in the late 1920s/early 1930s as an experimental early warning system for incoming aircraft but as aircraft speed increased they were superseded by radar. The largest circular dish measures 9m across.

I know one of the Dungeness lighthouses has licences for everything and they would have married there, but several guests had wheelchairs/ zimmer frames so they chose the more accessible venue.

I think the funeral itself was at Dungeness but they all travelled there via the RHDR

Obviously have quite a few round the UK. These two are the creepiest I've found, in the weirdest of areas. That's Dungeness - and the big factory thing behind is a nuclear power plant.

Dungeness: Stephen Message found a superb Pallas's Warbler in the Gully early afternoon and quickly alerted the locals, fortunately I was at home so was on site with Stephen a few minutes later. As usual it was very active and difficult to follow with the camera.

Enjoyed a lunchtime visit to the bottom of Dengemarsh Gully, Dungeness for a gorgeous Pallas’s Warbler found by Stephen Message…

Even I was able to capture the bird in a wonderful ‘habitat shot’ and the classic ‘hovering yellow rump’ shot 🫣

In the Bay Area, Dungeness crab season is a holiday tradition as well as an annual economic boon that brings in $40 million to the area. But Humpback whales keep getting caught in the crab lines, and it has upended the entire industry.

Dungeness: A gloomy damp day on the peninsula was brightened by this Blackcap feeding on Apples in a garden on The Point and the Chiffchaff feeding on the fruit flies.

A pleasant day off which I still ended up on Dungeness looking for a birthday rarity

Yellow-browed Warbler, Short-eared Owl, Woodlark, Ring Ouzel and assortment of finches and thrushes over

Great sunrise, cooked breakfast at lunchtime and then I slowed down with a mid afternoon snooze

Went to Dungeness today. Derek Jarman's cottage more suburban street than liminal idyll, IMHO. The rest of the area was much more interesting.

Big time Dungeness crab enthusiast and balancing these kinds of conflicts is tough. Also a whale enthusiast! And I see similar issues with lobster fishing on the East Coast.
