Let’s get back to the #DailyPaperback and celebrate #Gothtober, starting with this paperback cut into the shape of a tombstone.

#DailyPaperback Tor, 1990. Great folk horror stepback cover of my favorite @ramseycampbell1 novel (probably—there’s a lot of competition for that spot!)

#DailyPaperback Lumen Books, 1951. This is a weird one: the Catholic Church’s answer to the paperback revolution. Of note: twice as much as a Pocket paperback; not a novel but a treatise scolding women about being too vain and admonishing them to turn to Christ.

#DailyPaperback #NewAcq Private Edition, 1966. Bought this just because I had never seen it before. But it’s pretty interesting (1/2)

#DailyPaperback Avon, 1976. Sorry to return to the Gothic but I just got this chunky multi-generational saga and I would really like to stop answering emails and read it. Stop emailing me.

Zacherley (John Zacherle) was a beloved TV horror host in Philadelphia and New York. Cover art by Richard Powers, whose distinctive work made Ballantine books look psychedelically cool in the 1960s. #DailyPaperback

Harry Hervey was a gay writer who got his start writing for Black Mask and went on to publish plays and novels and write screenplays, including Shanghai Express with Marlene Dietrich. This lesbian novel was originally published in 1931. #DailyPaperback #PulpedPride

Two #NewAcq for my science fiction porn collection, both published by Brandon House in rather unremarkable green wrappers. #DailyPaperback

I cannot wait to read this to find out if these three actually have supernatural powers. Since it’s written by Victor J. Banis, known for both gay pulp and gothic, my hopes are high. #NewAcq #DailyPaperback

#DailyPaperback Warner, 1976. A massive bestseller that capitalized on the popularity of Kathleen Woodiwiss and Rosemary Rogers, Love’s Tender Fury was written by a man, Tom E. Huff, who switched to bodice rippers after a successful run of gothics, also under female pseudonyms.

Yesterday I posted a crisp, pristine sci-fi novel. There have always been SF fans who treated the genre with respect. But I also love smut that’s been treated with absolute contempt. #DailyPaperback Greenleaf, 1968.

For my first post on here, #DailyPaperback returns, with the 1980 bundle of filth from Hustler. I keep telling myself I don’t collect past 1970 but then I can’t pass stuff like this up.

#DailyPaperback Operator 5 was a 1930s pulp hero, a secret agent with a skull ring containing a capsule of poison gas. His stories were reprinted in the 60s by Corinth Regency, an imprint of smut empire Greenleaf. Kind of a weird departure and they did not sell well.
