#DMREF
New preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2508.05919

We aim to explain what hyperuniformity is, for non-specialists (hopefully even high schoolers?), since this is a key idea underlying our #NSF #DMREF grant (and the last photo). And what a great excuse to visit the NC State Insect Collection, to take photo A!

The "Hyperuniformity and Soft Materials" and "Network Theory and New Materials" sessions unfortunately overlap, and my DMREF collaboration has talks in both, working on understanding materials such as these 3D printed disordered materials, including @ncstatephysics.bsky.social ugrad Mastawal Tirfe

The first paper from our DMREF was recently submitted. We examine electrical resistance as a function of disorder (controlled by Lloyd's algorithm), with key results contributed by undergrads Caitlyn Obrero & Mastawal Tirfe (currently applying to PhD programs ...)

Tonight, I put some finishing touches on our amazing, NSF-funded project HybriD^3 on hybrid perovskites, which has now concluded but that is followed by two new NSF-DMREF funded projects with members of the original team.
hybrid3.duke.edu I'm truly proud of this project and of the remarkable team!

Check out the talent lineup on the DMREF grant that kicked off last night in 4 timezones (PST, EST, ECT, IST). We've still got spots to fill for engineering (GS), physics (GS), and applied math (PD) folks before we have a complete team, and in the meantime our undergrads are leading the way!

Re-sent to my department.

I imagine that some excellent people (they *are* excellent!), trained in a NSF-DMREF project that I co-led, may be involved in developing smart glasses now. True success!
