Was very pleased to have Sphagnum skyense confirmed growing above Líonán in Conamara. A first for me and na Mám toirce.
Bhí mé an-sásta Sphagnum skyense a aimsiú sna Mám Toirce ar cnoic Líonán ag fás ag thart ar 400m. Buíochas go Rory Hodd don comhairle.

Was very pleased to see alpine clubmoss today Diphasiastrum alpinum above líonán today in Conamara. Have been on look out for it all summer. Have only seen twice before (once in Scotland and once more in Conamara but I somehow lost the latter location since it was on a casual hike :/)

So we kindly ask that you follow and share this page to help raise awareness, let us know of any groups doing similar work and if you know of any landowners in Conamara with rhododendron on their land looking for help!

Oh, and keep an eye out for Green Drinks!

Haven't got under the microscope yet but I suspect this is Sphagnum pulchrum I have come across in a very good bog today north of the N59 in Conamara...

Oak living on the ledge at the southern end of Conamara national park today. At 335m, anyone else see oaks at this elevation here?

Great spot for exploring yesterday in sna mám toirce. So many beautiful lichens and mosses (would be worth a trip for a lichenologist). One of the highlights was this beautiful Douinia ovata which looks to have last been recorded in Conamara (beanna beola) in 1965

Ohmygosh, the variations in pronunciation 🤯 I’m in the west, so I’m trying to learn some version of the so-called “Connacht dialect.” Of course, there’s no such thing: the Irish spoken on the Aran Islands sounds nothing like that in Galway, & Conamara seems to have a different one in every village!

"This wouldn’t happen in Dublin, it’s happening in Conamara" is true, but it's not because anybody hates the West.

The problem is trying to fix so many faults affecting clusters of just 10-30 houses.

In the US etc, rural areas without power for 7+ days is sadly common after large storms.
I was wondering why the number of people affected by electric outages has been reported as ~100k for days without much of a decrease.

Then, looking at the ESB PowerCheck map, I clicked on the list view. Most faults affect less than 20 customers, generally ~0-15.

That's a hell of a lot of work!

Parekh: Conamara Chaos on Europa lacks chain of isolated pits. Few pit chains, and significantly shorter with SE-NW orientation. Most pit chains here either elongated pits or are fully developed troughs, with only few retaining crescent shape indicative of a pit
