My point is that it is entirely possible to put cops in computers (printers also have cops in them!).

I mean there’s a cop in ~every computer already! HDCP is exactly that. Without getting into the normative claims, it is entirely possible to put cops in computers!

Even though I can do arithmetic in my head, I still use computers to calculate their grades because they're less likely to make an error. This is the opposite of what LLMs do.

Bradley: "Some computers will start thinking soon."

Gibbs: "Won't that be grand. The computers will start thinking and the people will stop."

There's something extra in music made by humans playing instruments together that computers and synthesizers just can't do, though I do enjoy some beats and hip-hop.

Absolutely. Never exceeded 125 dollars in a month. I know exactly what uses the most electricity (the AC in summer in the south), the daily always on (computers, and related), and the least (the LED bulbs which includes the christmas tree lights). Suggest you do some reading on the topic.

Fact Check #Friday:
🎄 Did a computer virus ruin Christmas in the 1980s?

💻Yes, in 1987, a fake email Christmas card hit IBM computers. Open it, and you'll see a tree… but it secretly sends itself to everyone in your contacts.

There is still a large portion of them who still think that Japan is the only nation associated with Asia that modernized and has both internet access and gamers... and that almost the entire world has no internet access, computers, and even electricity, and are trapped in the 1930's technology wise

It's a shame because one thing computers are excellent at is storing records accurately.

to be fair, music made on computers is also human made, unless it is "ai" made. then it is completely lifeless nonsense and i agree.

but there is a lot of soul and emotion to be found in music made with computers, sometimes just with one instrument too, like a single analogue synth.

Some bullshit mercenary hacker organizations existed so long ago? Ah well I guess CIA or something similar started using this kind of bullshit for politics when it might've existed for scam and blackmail purposes since the dawn of computers.

Banking and insurance is bad enough.

I've been dealing with my state's unemployment benefits site this year; forget tech debt, it needs to declare technical bankruptcy.

Next, let's talk about the need for perfect code when dealing with small systems: computers in vehicles, hospital equipment, etc.

Yep.

Coder bro oligarchs are running the planet. The Bond movie "Skyfall" was creepily instructive.

Physical currency was a good countermeasure, but people are lazy and gave it up for computers.

Oh boy, I can't wait for the entire airline industry to get shut down for a few days again.

I had a programming teacher who once told the class "Computers are not smart, they are like 2 year olds. You tell them one wrong instruction and everything falls apart."

I had a dream last night that today was broken and only had 17 hours because the other ones were corrupt and couldn’t be loaded. I think I need to spend less time around computers

Ok, I'm no IT professional, but if the BIOS is so important to keeping the computer running long term, why doesn't it update automatically? Why all this work to a) figure out that's the problem, and b) update the thing? #computers #stressful

It's because EVs are moving from an expensive niche market to mass market. Similar things were happening in relation to resale values of computers which were expensive 12-18 months previously in the nineties for the same reasons - the newer ones are both better and cheaper.

using AI is just another abdication of the regular human responsibility to actually live. most of the things computers do for us would be great skills to have, like remembering phone numbers, driving in reverse, or actually relating to another human being face to face and learning social skills
