#RandomGameSaturday Wacky Word Games for the Coleco Adam. Picked it up decades ago at a thrift store, but have never played it because I only briefly had an Adam.

Sectaurs was one of those toylines I was fully prepared to get WAY into at the time…buuut no one else really did so I wasn’t allowed to.

Plus, they were on the expensive side relative to other figures.

Between Sectaurs and Rambo, though, Coleco had some folks who knew what they were doing.

The difference in sheer playability over prior consoles was huge. NES games felt responsive and controllable in a way that Atari, Coleco and Intellivision didn't.

Honorable mention to Sega... the SG-1000/Master System is also a fine system, but it didn't penetrate much here in the US.

Retailers, still wary after the collapse of Atari and Coleco, were hesitant. Nintendo offered a no-risk deal: stores only pay for sold units; unsold ones can be returned. The company even installs the displays and provides advertising materials.

Item: Donkey Kong (Atari 2600 Cartridge, by Coleco/Nintendo)

Release Year: 1982

Fun Fact: This version of Donkey Kong marked one of the earliest appearances of Mario on a home console — predating his Super Mario Bros. fame by several years.
