Graded out the rots ready for some pressing action next week. All fallers with dark brown pips, but compare the almost there-ness of the Foxwhelp and Yarlington Mill on the left with the starchy blue Dabinett, some of which is still on the tree and nowhere near ready. 🌱

After posting about this iconic painting a few months ago it was great to see it for real in the “Met” Museum in New York. Painted by William Mount in 1840. Cider Making is a scene from Long Island . A great day out after walking through a snowy Central Park. #painting #cider #cidermaking #TheMet

The cider press and grinder are all set up on their new platforms I made for them this year. Feel pretty solid if I say so myself.

The day today, 50 litres of the amber nectar pressed and ready to ferment. Special thanks to @goatteeboy.bsky.social who gave up a morning of bacon rolls and sloth to help wash and mill the days apples.

From foster dog to adopted dog! Maisie is now a fully fledged cider dog and permanent member of the family. 🐶

Today she had a go at sitting in the (stationary!) tractor and tried on her FiatAgri hat. She just needs to master cidermaking and then we're away. 😉

Every so often, usually this time of year, #pomology takes over. It clashes with my cidermaking schedule really. 2 years ago I created these forms to try to codify pear descriptions with a mind to make some sort of database. Never happened… But I did manage to square up German & English pear shapes!

I've attempted a few varied cidermaking crafts this season. We've keeved, made ciderkin, though have no idea how they'll turn out. Next up is ice Cider. We've had some success with this before, with some Gala apples which came my way. 30 litres of juice became just 15 bottles.

It got a bit out of hand when we were selling it, and there’s little more tedious than washing a dozen acacia racks and associated cloths after a hard day washing apples and shovelling pomace about. Cidermaking needs to be more fun than that for me now.
