#CarbonDioxide
For hundreds of millions of years carbondioxide was converted to plant material, which turned into fossil.
We are burning a large portion of this fossil in one hundred years, releasing the carbondioxide back into the atmosphere, which affects the climate, heats up the planet, affects ecosystems.

Higher levels of #carbondioxide will make the upper atmosphere less dense overall — but more prone to dramatic increases 📈 in density during #solarstorms, which could have significant implications for technology like #gps, #satellite 🛰️ internet and the #iss […]

300,000 Trees Tracked: Are Losing Their Power to Help Us
Tropical forests matter to each and every one of us. They suck colossal quantities of carbon out of the atmosphere, providing a crucial brake on the rate of climate change. Yet a statistical model …

Often a simple molecular-level explanation helps explain the big picture. I was at a teachers' PD session some years ago where Prof David Karoly (now at Australia's #ClimateCouncil) led us through the physics of how #CarbonDioxide (& water) molecules vibrate when they absorb infrared radiation. /2
Nothing is as it seems.. 🔬 Why are water drops round? It’s because the atoms at the surface are "nervous" as they have no partners! 💦
