It is terrifying to know that your children’s private medical records are in the hands of people who aren’t afraid to break the law to keep your kids from getting life-saving care. My gratitude to @queerdoc.bsky.social for standing up for their patients, even if CHLA threw our kids under the bus.

Earlier this year the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a major provider of care for transgender youth, announced that they would be pausing hormonal therapy for gender affirming care patients under the age of 19. Despite significant community pushback, CHLA ended its gender affirming care program.

To be clear, we're not a CHLA family. We're in MA at one of the clinics whose board did NOT chicken out like CHLA's did (fuck you, Fenway Health). My kid has some safe, legal options, and it's still really hard.
Without those options, it's a chasm.

UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk said recently in regards to trans healthcare for minors, “We are going to have to follow whatever rules the federal government proposes.”
It's unclear if that includes UCLA Health, but this is very worrying and shows the need for a community response.

I wish it felt like the gender clinics attached to hospitals felt like they could do more resisting. The slow down at so many and now the upcoming closure of CHLA leaves lots of families with few options. With children who need care now.

I did some checking recently & I think Queermed is currently (June 2025) the best telehealth clinic to check with, for supportive parents of trans minors who want healthcare & can't access it.
Unlike many major hospitals (NYU Langone, UPMC, CHLA) they aren't preemptively folding on that care.

It's the Unruh Civil Rights Act. CA AG Rob Bonta warned CHLA they would be in violation of this last February when they temporarily halted GAC for trans youths.
