In the past 24 hours, Mark Carney has promised to boost the number of security agents (RCMP + CBSA) by 2000.

Has a single journalist talked with @sandela.bsky.social or Robyn Maynard about what this means for canadian society?

The Calgary police department teamed up with CBSA to harass migrant workers at a construction site, expect more of that with these increases. #cdnpoli

Yes, clearly the entire CBSA grinds to a halt to deal with this one issue.

Why do they think that we're all idiots?

Our government is taking steps to strengthen Canada’s borders and keep communities safe. 🇨🇦

Measures include hiring 1,000 new CBSA officers, boosting recruit pay, and improving benefits for frontline workers to reflect the responsibility and stress of their roles.

Jesus Christ Carney is posting about CBSA when every other post on here is about ICE (Border Services) absolutely torturing people.

▪︎ How will they be recruited?
▪︎ How will they be trained?

Right now the RCMP is struggling to have officers not sexually assault their own colleagues.

CBSA never had civilian oversight despite being able to inspect & detain you (they have it now) but they continue to struggle.

So ya, easy peasy.

Canadians pay a lot of attention to ICE in the U.S., but meanwhile, in local immigration enforcement:

"We’ve been seeing this more and more ... CBSA has been newly enhanced and newly empowered."
Immigration checks conducted at Calgary event centre worksite
Calgary police officers, along with members of the Canada Border Services Agency, attended the city’s event centre construction site on Wednesday for what police described as a 'planned regulatory com...

Carney is proposing Canadian peacekeepers in Gaza.
We've had troops Mounties CBSA and other Canadian officials under US command helping Israel maintain its occupation of the West Bank for years.
Any 'peacekeeping' mission in Gaza would likely be an extension of this model

I am the same. Whenever I went to the US I was so careful to stay under my $150 as if CBSA were specifically waiting to see if I overspent. 🙄

When we moved back to Canada, I was asked at the border if we had guns (we were in 2 vehicles) and my response
"OH no! That's why we're leaving the US!!"

The CBSA officer smirked.

I read a fb post from a former CBSA employee who flagged the authorities held by US Customs and Border Patrol - more than police and an ability to operate in the grey areas more.

No thanks, we don’t need those folks in Canada, where we have freedom and care about fellow citizens

Update on the FedEx attempted extortion nonsense: threats appear to have worked, though it looks like I'm off the hook but now SFWA has got to pay the invoice and fight with CBSA for reimbursement of FedEx's bogus fee. This is so unethical and such a scam. I will still be contacting my MP about it

I've written to my MP asking for new restrictions on cross-border day shoppers. No more "free" imports, and a big increase in fines/penalties for lying to the CBSA.

LMAO so today in "fedex is trying to extort $400+ out of me for delivering my nebula award" the boilerplate response i got back from CBSA is basically a shrug emoji that says "these are 3rd parties and they do what they want." cool. so, i guess it's time for threats! wheeeee

C'est également injuste pour les Canadiens francophones, car il est extrêmement difficile, voire impossible, d'obtenir un entretien avec US Homeland Security en français. #CBSA #NEXUS

latest update in fedex trying to extort me out of $400 for delivering my nebula award: they've sent me another invoice and refuse to answer wtf this invoice *is* when i purchased nothing, so i've escalated it to CBSA. hopefully they'll have an answer. otherwise, next stop CBC 🙃

Mantle is accusing the government of not being serious enough on the border that we didn’t deploy troops like Mexico did.
Ramsay recites that they are hiring 1000 new RCMP officers and 1000 CBSA officers. #QP

Good. I've written my MP asking for higher duties on goods brought back by day shoppers, along with stiffer penalties for those who lie to the CBSA about what they're importing into Canada.

Actually got my mobile passport REAL ID to work at TSA Pre in Harvey Milk Terminal 1 today.

On the way back into Canada, was briefly asked "you say you live in Canada, what's your status in Canada" by a very bored CBSA agent who didn't want to just wave through. He and I knew I had a PR card. Done.
