(At least in the near to medium term) as a rapid, mobile battle would be fighting the U.S. in an arena where its fires, airpower, mechanization and advanced C2ISR would give it strong advantages. But I am hardly a “the tank is dead” kind of guy.

There is no reason to ever go beyond C2ISR. Every addition including “communications” is just describing more ways through which command and control are exercised. We need a school of military thought entirely dedicated to taking shit out of the C2ISR acronym.

That is an interesting thought experiment. Big first question is where the aircraft are hosted/stationed. Airborne refueling/C2ISR need safe space, so may be required to conduct OCA/SEAD & DCA for HVAA well outside left bank Ukraine to make space for HVAA to support lots of SEAD in left bank/Crimea

The neural link doesn't need a coherent, cognizant pilot. Just a nervous system, just a set of deeply ingrained reactions and the ability to follow direct-injection commands coming down from the C2ISR links. Like puppet strings, better without a consciousness that can tug back.

A proper AAR of the Franco-Prussian War would have revealed that the Prussians had a lot of issues with logistics and C2ISR that would again occur in WWI. Instead, the lead up to the war was generals, on all sides, screaming about élan anytime someone tried to address those problems.

Beautiful and terrible thing taking slow and careful steps out of the cradle, tuned to the softly chiming bells of their c2isr link, purpose and direction flowing into it like a vessel filled with warm waters. Wings unfurling as booster-pods engage a step beyond the open bay doors.
