My favourite opening lines in novels:

Brunonia Barry - “My name is Towner Whitney. No, that’s not exactly true. My real first name is Sophya. Never believe me. I lie all the time.”

And there have been some books where the first line is an automatic YES for me, so it’s not like you’re missing out by using that metric!

I suddenly spotted her sitting behind the elephant butts in the Field Columbian Museum when it was in the Palace of Fine Arts in Jackson Park. Obviously she didn't fit as the Field clarified that its mission was NOT remembering the fair. But what happened to her? I can find nothing about her. 3/

Good for my alma mater. I was furious when they surrendered to the Administration’s blackmail settlement and made trans students and staff 2nd class members of Brunonia.
