Mary Elizabeth Braddon's "Eveline's Visitant" was published in Belgravia in January 1867 and tells the tale of a feud, a curse, and a haunting from beyond the grave.

Also if you're only going to read one Victorian novel, skip Dickens and read Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon. There's a reason it's never gone out of print.

Charles Dickens is the worst thing to happen to the Victorian Novel. Mary Elizabeth Braddon for life.

Not Brontë, but I also have Lady Audley’s Secret (Mary Elizabeth Braddon) which we were supposed to read in my college Victorian Lit class, but never got to it…still haven’t as it stares at me from my bookshelves. 😁

I'll say this for #Librivox (not the sole positive thing obv, but a plus) - listening to Mary Elizabeth Braddon read by someone with a Brooklyn accent is an EXPERIENCE.
(It’s "Run to Earth" if anyone is curious, but warning that some of her books contain racial slurs. Because, ya know, Victorians.)

        Hoy hace 188 años nació:
Mary Braddon.

A recent arrival, and the book that I'm currently reading... 'Lady Audley's Secret' by Mary Elizabeth Braddon, a sensation novel originally published in 1862 (this edition 1893) that I'm absolutely loving. I am particularly fond of Robert Audley, easy-going aristocrat turned detective.
