Well, regardless of how it is organised (we really don't know) it always seems that two very different groups are working there. We really like the "ecosystem" that is growing around BirdNET. We'll keep you posted on that XC app :-)

hi Henry, have you given BirdNET a spin? Open & based to a great extent on XC recordings. Some day we may launch our own app, but not any day soon :-)

Looks more like a birdnet to me.

Is this birdNet?

Yes, that’s my understanding. The learning comes at periodic intervals when Cornell run a ‘learning update’, or so I’ve been led to believe. Same with BirdWeather PUC and BirdNet. I feedback daily that it gets YBW wrong but it continues to mis-ID. I’ll see if it’s ‘learned’ come next autumn.

See here: merlin.allaboutbirds.org/merlin-sound... and here: merlin.allaboutbirds.org/help-expand-.... There is more information in the numerous papers on BirdNET, e.g. by Dr Stefan Kahl.
Merlin Sound ID: Project Overview
The Merlin Sound ID project is a community-driven effort to develop a powerful, global bird sound identification tool for birders, researchers, and conservationists. This powers: Engagement - impr...

Would be very happy to be told otherwise, but I don’t believe you are able to affect the algorithm in real time by feeding back through the app. My understanding is that your feedback may be used to train a new version of the BirdNET algorithm, but this would only affect the Merlin app once updated

Kicking off #biodcase with a keynote lecture from Stefan Kahl (of #BirdNet fame). 3 billion bird sound observations - what to do with them

And it’s not just Merlin, the BirdWeather PUC is as buggy as hell (uses BirdNet). It really can’t handle Common Starling and Greylag Geese and my detections are littered with mis-IDs from these two species alone. At least #BWPUC allows me to feedback individual mis-IDs. But will it ever ‘learn’? 🪶
