The single pivot didn’t work in 2016 because we lost Jorge & RodWall & Liam got hurt. If you’ve got a solid backline & wingers who defend, it can totally work.

There's still a lot to be learned about how he and the #Quakes74 will approach the offseason and 2026, but that will have to wait for another day. Arena's bullish on many of his defenders (Munie, Jones, Floriani, Roberts), but knows the backline needs to be more robust.

There will a handful of quality pieces at the disposal of whoever takes over for Chris Armas.

I think full strength Ireland is better than full strength NZ.
But minimal games for the Lions and all the injuries in the backline tip the scale for me.
But hey - NZ had 2 good games to end the Rugby Championship, which means they’re due a bozo game.

While I bear Armas no ill will, I do think this is the right move. His system only worked with a generational athlete on the backline putting out fires. Can’t count on that (with Rapids budget)
