8/11: Red-breasted Flycatcher & Firecrest ringed today along with 3 Blackcaps & 5 Chiffchaffs (AA)

First dry day in a while, unseasonably mild and an increase in migrants on Barra. As well as the Firecrest, 1 possibly 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs, double figures of Blackcaps, 4+ Woodcock, 2 Grey Wagtail and hundreds of Redwings around the island. Autumn's not over yet! #BirdingScotland

Daily graft on my local patches for a couple of chiffchaffs and a couple of Blackcaps. A chance to enjoy the local birds. #Highlandbirds #Ullapool #Ardmair

Ok, the cricket is on at 7pm and I can watch it today!!!! Yay. Come on Blackcaps. 🏏🇳🇿

Rather disappointing #WestrayBirding today. The influx of Blackbirds continues but no other thrushes. A ‘pheeting’ Siberian Chiffchaff refused to come out of cover apart from glimpses of its ghostly form. Three Blackcaps remain, each now feeding exclusively on the ground as trees are now leafless.

Struggling to get out of the house atm. Managed 45 minutes at the Tin Church today. Loads of Blackbirds, a few Goldcrests, 2 Blackcaps, 2 Chiffchaffs and a grey and white Chiffchaff, brief views and not calling, probably more 'eastern' in origin tho, possibly Siberian.

As below, Yellow-browed Warbler still in and around the garden. November, needless to say, is a new month for the species. Nice to see a male Blackcap this morning too. Unlike the wintering Chiffchaffs, wintering Blackcaps, when we get them, tend to be pretty quiet.

Immeadiate shout-out to @birdingprof.bsky.social for adding Yellow-browed Warbler to my Breck list 🫡

As a long suffering Blackcaps fan, still pissed at the CWC final of 2019 and hating the game has turned into the England, India and Australia show, I like seeing any of those teams not perform.

And England aren’t just underperforming, they’re being utterly outclassed.

The easterlies looked good so I headed up to Shetland last weekend. So far slightly dissapointing but enjoyable birding nonetheless, with lots of common migrants to keep the interest. Cool to see Northern Bullfinch and always nice bumping into YBWs and Sibe Chiffs. #birdingscotland

I usually get 1 or 2 Blackcaps overwintering in my garden, research suggests these birds come from Germany/N. Europe rather than Uk birds not migrating. I saw a male today. #Birds!

Yesterday there was an arrival of birds on Yell. Jackdaws, Moorhen (only 2nd I’ve seen on here) Bramblings, Blackcaps and Redwings were the main arrivals. But 2 Greenfinch (rare on here) YBW & juv Peregrine.
Then a quick trip to Brig o Fitch Black faced Bunting! #shetlandbirding

1. Fair Isle Day-5. A much calmer day and the feeling that birds were taking their time to emerge after the battering of yesterday. As the morning wore on Woodcock were zipping around all over the place. And Blackcaps- swarms of the sods. #UKBirding

A very full days #WestrayBirding with lots of common migrants but nowt remotely scarce to show for it. Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Garden Warbler, 30+ Blackcap, 18 Chiffchaff (mostly abietinus), Willow Warbler, 5 Goldcrest, Mistle Thrush, 5 Song Thrush, Greenland Redpoll, Long-eared Owl and Woodcock.

This thread is about Chiffchaffs in area of land that I started rewilding ten years ago at the end of my garden.
This year 3 species of warbler nested here: Chiffchaffs, Common Whitethroats & Blackcaps.
Cost spent = £0.00

1/6 The Year of the Chiffchaff - escape from this gloomy rainy day to the promise of spring.
The Chiffchaff builds its nest with an outer shell of grass, with leaves at it's base.
It's a wonderful dome-shaped structure which is extremely well hidden, often by the side of a path.
Caution strimmers!

Decent start for the Blackcaps. Need to capitalise.

Brook and Buttler can put this out of sight.
