This is an Advisory..A great habit to get into when viewing Asperitas..in real life or photographs and vids etc..is to look at Asperitas Upside Down. Doing so explains and usually answers all questions as well as verifies what you are looking at. Below, is same asperitas. One is upside down

Just as no two snowflakes are alike, every sunrise is uniquely its own. This morning featured asperitas clouds, often called “jellyfish clouds”, which typically form within altostratus or stratocumulus layers.

This afternoon (before the expected foul weather), my son and I went for a quick neighbourhood stroll and marvelled at the Asperitas clouds. Photos do not capture how fabulous it was. Like a painting in the sky.

Here's a great overview from the UK Met Office. Asperitas isn't "new", but in 2015 it was newly recognized by the World Meteorological Organization—the only such addition to the WMO atlas of cloud types in the past 74 years!

Asperitas clouds (I think that’s what these clouds are?) over the Salt Lake Valley today. Photographed these from Sunrise Mountain Park in South Jordan, UT. I truly LOVE these kinds of clouds. It makes the sky feel otherworldly - even a little eerie or unsettling.
