If @gelliottmorris.com's local Trump approval estimates are even half right, the president has rapidly reshaped the political map... against him and his allies. Some #AmericanNations regional analysis of the former 538 chief's findings:

Today is #January9, 2026.

I just wanted to let you know that I am almost done with reading @colinwoodard.bsky.social's book #NationsApart, a sequel to his 2011 book #AmericanNations.

If you have read either of these books, what are your thoughts on Woodard's theories?

The Demward shift in reaction to Trump2 is real, #NJgov edition. Twelve years ago Chris Christie won NJ's Midland section by 32 points. Last month, the R candidate lost it by 1.3. #AmericanNations analysis via @pellcenter.bsky.social's Nationhood Lab: www.nationhoodlab.org/the-2025-vir...

Are America's divisions really about red versus blue?
Historian and bestselling author Colin Woodard argues America's divide isn’t red vs. blue at all — it’s a clash of distinct cultural nations.

This is aiming for a higher degree of resolution than the "dominant regional cultures of North America" in #AmericanNations and, broadly speaking, ain't bad. I think it captures some things very well, but misses a few really important, domain-level distinctions and continuities.

Untested Hypothesis: a New Netherland effect at work here. #AmericanNations
Columbia’s cave-in, Cuomo’s polling, the top-to-bottom corruption of Adams’ mayoralty: a good post earlier talked about the collapse of civic virtue in the U.S., but it’s worth suggesting that there’s something lacking regarding civic virtue and civil society in New York _specifically_.
Columbia fumbled the ball big time.

Cowardice gets you nowhere.
